Relics in the Earlier Demo
In the earlier Demo, relics were passive effects tied to suits. The developer's “New Rules in the City” devlog describes this system. An independent Steam review of the Demo describes the same suit-triggered passives.
These two sources agree, which makes the historical system well documented. They describe an earlier build, though. That is the key point for anyone reading old guides.
A Historical Example
The devlog gives one example: a relic called Old Lighter that responds when a hand has at least two spades. It shows how suit triggers worked in that version. We include it as a dated illustration only.
Do not treat Old Lighter's trigger as a current rule. Its behavior, or even its presence, may have changed in the rework. Check the in-game tooltip in your version.
The September 2026 Rework
The “Playtests Start NOW!” announcement, dated September 9, 2026, says relics were rebuilt. The playtest ran until September 16. It marks a clear boundary between old and new relic rules.
The announcement does not provide a full list of new relics or their triggers. No second source confirms the revised system in detail yet. We will describe it once the Early Access version can be checked.
Relics vs Trinkets
Relics and trinkets are separate systems, even though both can be passive. Trinkets are run modifiers that come from slot machines. Relics were their own suit-based system in the earlier Demo.
Do not swap one name for the other in guides or notes. Mixing them makes it hard to follow which rule applies. See the trinkets page for that system.
Why Suits Matter
Suits are central to several systems. Flushes depend on suits, and tricks can change a card's suit. In the earlier Demo, relics responded to suits too.
Even if the rework changed relic triggers, understanding suits helps. Our poker hands and tricks pages explain the related rules. Those are documented in more detail than current relics.
How to Read Relics in Your Version
Because the system changed, the tooltip is your best guide. Read what triggers the relic and what it does. Then check whether your build can meet that condition often.
- What condition triggers the relic.
- What the relic does when it triggers.
- Any limit on how many you can equip.
- Whether it matches your weapon, trinkets and tricks.
What Is Still Unknown
No current complete relic list, revised trigger table, equip limit, unlock cost or best relic ranking has been verified. April and September mechanics should not be combined. Treat sources that do this with caution.
We will publish a relic catalog once current tooltips can be checked. Each entry will carry its version. Until then, rely on the in-game descriptions.
A Short Relic Timeline
The relic system has two documented stages. In the earlier Demo, relics were passive effects triggered by suits, described in the developer's devlog and an independent review. The devlog example was Old Lighter, which responded to at least two spades.
On September 9, 2026, the developer announced that relics were rebuilt for a playtest running until September 16. The Early Access version, planned for October 30, 2026, will be the next stage. Each stage should be read separately.
Relics and Tricks Together
In the earlier Demo, a relic triggered by suits worked well with tricks that change suits. A trick could create the condition a relic needed. That made the two systems natural partners.
Whether that still holds after the rework is not confirmed. If current relics still use suits, the same idea should apply. Check both tooltips before planning around the combination.
How We Will Update This Page
We will add current relics once the Early Access tooltips can be checked. Each relic will be listed with its trigger, effect and the version it was checked in. Historical entries will stay clearly labelled.
If you find a relic description in game, you can send it through the contact page. A screenshot of the tooltip is the most useful evidence. Please include your game version.
What the Rework Means for Players
If you played the earlier Demo, expect relics to work differently now. Old notes about suit triggers may no longer be accurate. Approach relics as a new system until you have read the current tooltips.
New players can simply learn relics from the game. Older guides are more likely to confuse than help. Check the date on any relic advice you find.
What We Know vs What We Do Not
We know relics existed as suit-triggered passives in the earlier Demo. We know Old Lighter was one historical example. We know the developer rebuilt relics for the September 2026 playtest.
We do not know the current relic list, triggers, equip limit or unlock cost. We do not know which old relics survived the rework. Those answers will come from the Early Access build.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do relics still use suits?
This has not been confirmed after the September 2026 rework. Read the current tooltips in your version.
What was Old Lighter?
Old Lighter is a historical example from the earlier devlog, described as responding to at least two spades. It should not be treated as a current rule.
What are relics in The Golden Caravan?
In the earlier Demo, relics were passive effects triggered by card suits. They were rebuilt in the September 2026 playtest, so current rules may differ.
Do old relic triggers still apply?
Not necessarily. The September 9, 2026 playtest announcement says relics were rebuilt. Treat old descriptions as history.
Are relics the same as trinkets?
No. Trinkets are run modifiers from slot machines. Relics were a separate, suit-based system.
What is the best relic?
No ranking has been verified, and the system was reworked. Read the current tooltips in your version.
